Phone number privacy settings — Top Virtual Number for Telegram
Telegram lets you hide your number from other users and limit who can find you by it, which matters for any number you did not choose.
Who can see my phone number
Telegram shows your number to other users according to one setting. Open Settings, then Privacy and Security, then Phone Number. Menu names can vary slightly between apps.
The usual choices are Everybody, My Contacts and Nobody. You can also add exceptions for people who should always or never see the number.
Telegram notes that people who already have your number saved in their phone contacts may still see it. With a virtual number, someone may have it saved from an earlier holder, since numbers are often reassigned. Choosing Nobody limits who sees the number on your profile. It is a sensible default for a number you did not pick yourself.
Who can find me by my number
When the number is hidden, Telegram shows a second option. It controls who can find your account by entering the number.
Setting it to My Contacts means people outside your contacts cannot link the number to your profile. This reduces unwanted messages from anyone who later holds or guesses the number.
A public username lets people reach you without seeing the number. Choose one that does not reveal your real name or other accounts if that matters to you.
Review contact syncing in the same privacy area. Syncing uploads your phone contacts, which may not fit the purpose of the account. These settings protect privacy; they do not change Telegram's rules for the account.
An illustrative check
Ask a person you trust to help, using their own Telegram account. Do the check after your settings are saved.
From their account, open your profile and record whether the number appears. Then ask them to search for your number from a phone where it is not saved as a contact. Record whether your profile shows up. Change one exception, repeat the search once, and record the result again. This shows that each setting works as you expect.
Write the results down with the date. This is a proposed check, not a reported VoIPStore test. Current terms for VoIPStore's numbers and accounts are on VoIPStore's official site.
